yarn stash

Remember making craft projects with that stratchy Red Heart yarn that split easily when you were a kid? Back then I never knew that I would develop an obsession with yarn. Knitting truly makes me happy (when a poorly written pattern is not makning me frustrated). I think my addiction to knitting now rivals my addiction to lip balm.

If you aren't a knitter you may not get it and I will not hold that against you. You have not been sucked in. Into all the wonder of and the need for the textures and pretty colors and the satisfaction of knowing that the scarf around someone's neck came into being by your own two hands.

Knitting is a way for me to relax, to meditate, to focus, to get lost, to pass time, to work something out, to know the joy of creativity. For a knitter having yarn around is like a gardner surrounded by flowers. A baker surrounded by bread.

I enjoy the act of rolling a skein of yarn into a ball. I enjoy working out any tangles or knots. I love discovering the colors of a skein of variegated yarn. Like some of the Noro Kureyon that BFF sent me for Christmas (along with the pattern for a Booga Bag) .

I also like the look and feel of really good yarn. Like the Lamb's Pride Worsted Weight that I bought at Crafty Hands in Bowling Green with the plans to knit a felted Buttonhole Bag.

Call this hokey-but yarn is like sunshine. You can go a few days without it. But a day with it is much better...it's much...uh, brighter.
