Why this is sweet: People are dancing on sidewalks. And I mean really dancing on sidewalks. I love Adele's voice.

the name the baseball team contest

You have a few more days to come up with a fantastic name for Bowling Green's new baseball team and get in on the contest.

a +/- b1 + b2 + b3 = ? ? ? ?

I saw this sticker on the rear window of a car the other day.
At first I was like: Ooo, look at the pretty colors.
Then I realized what it was and went: Hey, wait a minute.
Then I thought: Really? To be fair, I don’t know that this is an official campaign sticker. But…Someone Somewhere thought it was a good idea.

the spelunkers? or the mid-life crises?

Guess what? Bowling Green is getting a minor league baseball team in Spring 2009!! And a new baseball stadium!!! And I’m coming across really excited! And I don’t even like baseball!Okay, it is kind of exciting that we’ll have a professional sports team in our friendly (small) city. The A team, The Columbus Catfish, is coming from Georgia. I am dying to find out what the name of our team will be! That part I am excited about. I would say there is a 67% chance it will have something to do with the Corvette. But I’m really pulling for the Bowling Green Spelunkers.
To celebrate Bowling Green’s new baseball team let’s have a contest!

1) Leave a comment, by clicking on the word "Comments" below, with your suggestion for the name of Bowling Green’s baseball team.
2) Next Wednesday, June 18th, I’ll post everyone’s suggestions and then we’ll take a vote.
3) Whoever wins will get … I don’t know! Something from the new baseball team when they arrive.

10 on tuesday: 10 things that annoy you about work

Ten things that annoy me about work…

1) That I have to go on the days when I would rather sleep, read, knit, play outside, play with Derby, talk with friends and family, go shopping, paint, write, watch a movie, learn a new craft, try a new recipe, take a nap…
2) Co-workers who pee on the toilet seat and don’t wipe it up.
3) Co-workers who make a mess in the breakroom/kitchen and don’t clean it up.
4) Co-workers who back into their parking space in the garage while a line of cars waits for them to get it between the lines. In the grand scheme of things this saves you no time. And I kind of doubt anybody is going to compliment you on your reverse driving skills.
5) Co-workers who leave their cell phones set to their loudest ring-tone and then leave it on their desks while their kids call 49 times in a row.
6) Talking on the phone when I have a cough/sore throat.
7) That all the talking on the phone I have to do at work lessens my desire to spend time on the phone with my friends and family.
8) The occassional rude/inconsiderate person I speak to on the phone.
9) I honestly don’t mind my long commute. But I don’t like putting so many miles on my car and the frequent fill-ups at $4.00/gallon.
10) See #1

so, i did something stupid last weekend

I thought it would be a good idea to go on a hiking trip at Mammoth Cave with the Crossroads group from my church. It was a dreadfully hot humid sweaty June Kentucky day. I thought I might be able to handle it. But there were too many hills and inclines-both of which are difficult for my back with its herniated discs. It was amazing to feel the cool air that rushed out near where the Historic Entrance tour begins.

The last leg of the hike was pretty much uphill. Mammoth Cave National Park is always beautiful. However, I’m afraid I didn’t even take in much of the scenery because I was too busy concentrating on putting one foot in front of the other. It seemed like Derby was trying to pull me up the hills a few times. I’d hand his leash off to someone else so I could concentrate on myself and lifting my legs that gradually felt like they weighed a Volkswagen Jetta a piece. But, Derby insisted on staying by my side-so sweet. I think he had a good day and was one tired little puppy by the end of it.Between the heat and my back I finally had to give up and accept a ride back to the visitor’s center from a guy in our group who had gone ahead for his truck. That was real good for my pride. But the air conditioning felt so good. My friends said I should be proud of all the steps that I did take and not the ones that I didn’t. That hike was one of the first truly physically stretching-out-of-my-comfort-zone things that I have done since my back surgery. It is emotionally and mentally difficult for me to not be as outdoorsy as I used to be. I kept thinking I was almost to the top of the hill. If I could just get to the top of the hill I could make it. Then I’d stop to rest and my legs would burn. At one point my friends, David and Johnny G., asked me to turn around and look at how much of the hill I had already climbed. It was breathtaking. In more ways than one.
