PRE-SHOW
6: 34: Is it just me or did Angelina seem a little cold towards Giuliana Rancic? I know she's one of the most famous people in the world. And she and Brad are pretty guarded about their relationship. I understand the desire to protect your family. But... And did it seem like Angelina was almost slipping into something of a patrician accent?
6:37: Good change of subject by Brad...let's talk about Benjamin Button.
6:41: Love Amy Adams. However, something about her makeup is off. The dress is a gorgeous color. But a little odd fitting in the boobage area.
6:45: Laura Dern in Burberry. Simple. Gorgeous. Is Alec Baldwin with a really young date? Or is that his daughter, Ireland? Trying to prove to everyone that you don't think she's "a little pig"?
6:47: Let's count how many times this T-Mobile "Like Vivianne. And Skinny Pete. And Derek with a mustache and mustang" commercial, here to known as "Skinny Pete", is aired tonight. That's 1.
6:51: Interesting conversation between E!'s Debbie Matenopoulos and Jesse Spencer (House) about "protesters", holding up signs about Jesus, hating actors. And Debbie says, "I'd rather hang with the sinners than the saints. Go get a cocktail." Just what did those signs say???
6:57: Raise your hand if you love Anne Hathaway. *Jennifer raises hand.*
"You get to wear fun frocks."
And now on to the show...
SAG AWARD SHOW
7:00: Flag on the field. Penalty. Unnecessary and unoriginal voiced over Red Carpet introductions.
7:02: They may be a little cheesy. But I like these "I'm an actor" statements from the audience.
7:05: Kiefer Sutherland and Rosario Dawson
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series
Come on Christina Applegate. Come on. I know Tina Fey will win. But come on Samantha Who?.
Mary-Louise Parker - a show about a drug dealer. No thanks.
And the Actor goes to.... Tina Fey. Yep.
Tina Fey's speech about her daughter, Alice, pretty funny.
7:08: Stars from Slumdog Millionaire. Dude is reading from cards instead of TelePrompter. Don't know if I've ever seen that.
7:10: Jon Hamm and Kyra Sedgwick presentOutstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series.
Jon Hamm...mmmmmmmmmmmm. Some mean really know how to wear a suit. Kyra's dress...I'm just not sure.
Please no Alec Baldwin. Please no.
Steve Carell, yes please.
Tony Shalhoub, yes.
And the Actor goes to...Alec Baldwin. Whatever.
7:15: "Skinny Pete" Count: 2
Commercial break. I think I'm going to have to slow down the pace here. I'm missing getting to look at everyone's outfits. Which is half the fun! No wait. Which is 3/4 the fun!
Who plans to watch this new TNT show, Trust Me?
7:19: Evan Rachel Wood - emerald green dress, yes; ginger hair color, no.
7:22: Claire Danes - simple, flattering red gown with nice piping. Pretty hair. - Presenting Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series
And the Actor(s) go to: The Cast of 30 Rock.
Wait. I thought at the Golden Globes Tracey Morgan said if Barack Obama won...Oh. Um, The Arizona Cardinals won...Did anyone get anything that Jane Kaczmare...wait that's not her name. Um, Jane Krakowski, Did anyone get what Jane Krakowski was saying?
7:30: Greg Kinnear presents Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role. To be fair, of these nominees I've only seen Benjamin Button. But I love Kate Winselt.
And she won! And I love her dress. Gorgeous royal blue, fitted gown. Simple updo. Cleavage, but not in a vulgar way. I do miss Kate's more curvy figure. However, she does look amazing. She may be in the My Top 5 Best Dressed again.
7:36: Did anyone else's award show just freeze up? Did Senator Robert Byrd pass out in the audience so they cut away? What happened?
7:38: LOVE Christina Applegate's royal green drapey gown. Not sure about the long skinny necklace with the big dangley round earrings, though.
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series.
If Jon Hamm doesn't win I will change the channel.
I will change it back. But I will change the channel.
And the Actor goes to: Hugh Laurie. Okay. I am okay with that. I will not change the channel. He's a fine actor and I love that show. I am just so smitten with Jon Hamm. If you're not watching Mad Men you are missing the best show on television.
7:42: Thank you Amy Poehler for rocking a regular woman's post-baby body. Thank you. It is refreshing and you look lovely. Is anyone else tired of "Actress-Who-Just-Had-A-Baby-Yesterday...is already back to her post-baby weight. She didn't eat anything for nine months and started 31 hours of Hot Yoga before the epidural wore off!"??
John Krasinski and Amy Poehler - good work.
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series - Come on Kyra.
And the actor goes to: Sally Field. Really? She already knows we really like her.
"And I thought it would be a cable girl. And such good actors they are." Good save Sally. That could have been misconstrued...about 10 years ago when the best shows were on broadcast television.
7:47: Package about the movie, Milk. Raise hand if you plan to see Milk.
7:48: Eric McCormack and Emily Blunt. NICE jab at "Grey's Anatomy" with the "creepy sex scenes with a ghost" line.
Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series
I will be okay with The Closer. Or with House. But please please please please please let it be Mad Men.
And the actor goes to: MAD MEN! Yes yes y'all.
7:52: I don't even recognize some of these actors in their non-1960's hair/makeup/garb.
January Jones - kind of a Grecian thing going on with her black and gold dress.
Kristina Hendricks - Hollywood doesn't make em much like that any more. And that is a shame.
7:56: Both TNT and TBS are airing the SAGs. They are not airing the same commercials. In case you're keeping track of the "Skinny Pete" count I am tuned into TNT.
8:00: Time for a word from the SAG president. Ummm, Alan Rosenberg doesn't look so healthy.
8:01: Life Achievement Award time - James Earl Jones. Going to sit back and watch...And listen, of course.
I didn't remember that James Earl Jones was in Dr. Strangelove. Oh wait, I've never seen it.
"No, I am your father." Ever notice that most people misquote that as, "Luke, I am your father"? (Hey, I used to date a Star Wars geek...)
Wow. How often do you hear an actor quote Scripture at an award show?
Nice little tribute to Paul Newman there, Mr. Jones.
8:18: Ernest Borgnine. Haven't seen him in awhile.
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries
I don't really have a dog in this fight. A horse in this race. A car in this grand prix.
Well, I am fond of Mrs. Huxtable.
"Would you believe, Laura Linney". Did that mean he had never heard of her? Or that he thought it was a given? Or does he even know where he is?
8:23: Amy Adams & Viola Davis. When I see Viola Davis all dolled up in that lovely goldenrod satin number and her hair all did I can't believe she's the same woman in the movie, Doubt.
8:24: (Eric, this is for you.) Hey, Marisa Tomei. She used to be on As the World Turns!
8:25: Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries
We all know someone from John Adams will win.
And it went to Paul Giamatti...who isn't there.
8:26: Susan Sarandon is an actress of the "mature" set that still dresses up for these award shows. Thank you, Susan, for that. At least.
8:27: MEMORIAM
And now it's that time in our show when we all say, "I didn't know they died/I thought they were already dead."
I'll shut-up now.
(8:28: Did I ever mention that I once met Isaac Hayes in the lobby of BMI?)
(8:30: Man, Bernie Mac. Estelle Getty. George Carlin. And, of course, Paul Newman. Some of these hurt a little more than others.)
8:36: iPhone commercial. "And if you want to read and MRI on your iPhone there's an app for that. " Well, of course there is.
8:36: Kristen Scott Thomas. Pants? No.
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role
Is there any doubt that Heath Ledger will win?
Gary Oldman is accepting?
I think those were nice and simple things to say in the midst of a sobering moment.
8:40: I didn't know that Benjamin Button was based on a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald until the credits rolled in the theater.
Taraji P. Henson looks lovely.
8:47: Ralph Finnes
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role
I'm a fan of Anne Hathaway if you've not picked up on that yet.
Do you think Meryl or Kate will win this?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE that Meryl just ran triumphantly and joyously to the stage. But HATE HATE HATE what she's wearing. Well, sorta. It's not all bad. It's just...pants.
I really thought Kate might have another double award winning evening.
I am listening to what Meryl is saying about how there are a lot of great roles being created for women now. And I could not agree more. And it's about time. But then I'm distracted by the thought that I would really like to get a hold of Meryl Streep and give her a makeover. Nothing crazy. Nothing over-the-top. Something totally age appropriate. An "Every Day" look even. Meryl, have your people call my people.
8:53: Katie Holmes. I'm glad to see that she's gone back to a cute bob haircut.
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
Of these roles I have only seen Benjamin Button.
Mickey Rourke?
NO! Sean Penn.
Really.
?
8:59: Sir Anthony Hopkins. Did he slim down "for a role"?
Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture
Slumdog Millionaire.
I had hoped to see that movie last night. But my friend, Laura, and I were kind of running late and ended up going to the theater that we were closer to. We saw Defiance and I'll talk more about it later because it is totally worth talking about. A lot.

Viola is gorgeous... she did theater with my mom and it's sad that she gets cast in down-trodden woman roles.
