jelly donut

This afternoon I spoke with Dr. Schoettle’s nurse. You know the way his name is pronounced always makes me think of Tetley Tea and then I get the jingle stuck in my head. “Time out for tiny little tea leaves in Tetley Tea.” Anyhow, his nurse said the MRI that I had last Thursday showed “significant disc rupture” and Dr. Schoettle would like for me to have surgery. I’m going to see him on September 26 to discuss. Yeah, I'm wigged outta my gourd and I'm going to spend some serious time praying about this.
Alright, I am confused. These medical people use some phrases interchangeably and some use them to mean specific things. Bulging, herniated, ruptured. I thought one was worse than the one that follows. But in my reading some use herniated and ruptured like they are the same thing. I’m kind of confused. All I know is that your disc is like a jelly “donit” and my jelly has oozed outta my donit.

sorry to hear about this!

i just met a chiro (at the wedding last weekend) who was talking about a new machine that is a great alternative to surgery for patients with bulging discs. it is about $4400 but he said there is an 85% success rate. heard of it???

i will pray too.

Yow! No wonder you're in so much pain. Ask the doctor when you see him how he defines bulging vs. ruptured vs. herniated; it'll definitely help you make a decision, I'd think, if you know how he's thinking, and whether the machine Cara's talking about would help.

Freak out to us all you want-we're all here for you!

I hope he answers all your questions so that you can make this decision. Has Dr. Ray weighed in about it yet?

Thanks ya'll!

I see Dr. Ray this afternoon and we'll talk about it all. I hope to have more clarity after my visit. I really hope I'm not more confused.

Thanks for letting me use this forum to unload and fret and worry and ponder and just get it out. I love you all!
