a disc by any other name...

So, you know how I said it seems that some healthcare professionals use bulging, herniated, and ruptured interchangeably? I think of a ruptured disc being more significant than a herniated disc (even though they are both pretty noteworthy). Well, I am not alone in this assessment. I had my regular chiropractic visit yesterday and Dr. Ray indicated the same. He has not received my MRI report from the neurosurgeon’s office yet. Understandably, he would like to see the report first before he offers his opinion on surgery. If the disc is indeed ruptured he thinks I probably would need surgery. If it’s still only herniated (by our definition) he said surgery may not be best. Dr. Ray has been my chiropractor for around five years and has been with me every step of the low back woes way. I trust him with my life and I wish he could operate himself if I indeed need surgery. I’m just saying his opinion is way…way up there. Is my L5 disc ruptured? Or is it herniated? That indeed is the question. Lord, give me wisdom and give me patience, please.
