smart AND funny

I love Amy Sedaris. I hear her voice and it makes me smile. I see her smile and it makes me feel happy inside. Do I have one of those platonic girl crushes on Amy Sedaris? I think I do. I think she's the bee's knees. So fresh and silly and willing to be not so pretty for a laugh. I admire women like that. Women who risk being "ugly" for the chance to make someone giggle until milk comes out his/her nose. Lucille Ball, Amy Pohler, and even Jenny McCarthy (she's dating Jim Carrey? Who? Wha?) come to mind.

Yesterday I heard Amy on NPR's Fresh Air (click here for the Interview). She has a new book and a new movie (STRANGER'S WITH CANDY - PARTIALLY FINACED BY WORLDWIDE PANTS/MR. LETTERMAN) coming out soon. David Letterman (who I also have a crush on) loves Amy Sedaris which makes me love him even more. I LOVE when she's on his show. He always seems taken with her and looks at her like a creature he just can't take in all at once. One of her appearances was soon after Paris Hilton had visited. She showed a video clip of Paris sitting in the chair and dropping a bag beside the chair in a "someone else/one of the servants will pick that up" kind of way. And I LOVE that Amy called her out on it on national tv. That night she also wore this amazing gown with loads and loads of pink tulle underneath. She could barely keep it beneath her chin. I'd really like to become friends with Amy. We could bake and make crafts. I'm sure she'd love to take me to all the yarn stores in Manhattan. We could create characters to take on for the day. We’d visit every Starbucks or Dean and Deluca we could. We’d order soy lattes and gingerbread cookies in funny voices. We’d wear wigs and lipstick outside the natural lines of our lips. We'd carry big pocketbooks on our forearms. We’d tuck tissues under the cuff or our sleeves. We’d call all males “young man”. And then we’d jump in a fountain!
Call me, Amy.
Call me.

AND THIS - THIS RIGHT HERE - IS WHY WE ARE PLUTONIC STAR-CROSSED LOVERS. LET'S PROMISE TO NEVER MEET IN PERSON UNLESS WE COMMIT TO DO THE THINGS YOU HAVE LISTED ABOVE!

Amy is awesome, and I recommend her brother's books for your commute (she reads on at least one of them).

BTW, Strangers with Candy is playing at the Belcourt July 14. We should go!

I've read a few of her brother's books. I like him, too. But not in the love love way I have for Amy. Yes, I would love to see Strangers With Candy. I was at teh Belcourt last night.

Hugh Grant was wonderful in Love Actually. His hair was at it's best in About a Boy.

Let's see...who are my other crushes? Karin from Over the Rhine, Nigella Lawson, Kate Dillion, and Jennifer Garner. There are probably others. Coz I'm a whore like that.
