nothing up my sleeves…but my cell phone & my passport & my wallet

Yesterday at lunch I was telling LYLASarah about a how David Copperfield was almost robbed. Okay, I was trying to tell her but I had barely started this story and we were both laughing so hard we could scarcely get through it. I was telling LYLAS how Copperfield was walking with two of his assistants when they were robbed by two armed men…who were in a car. The women handed over money, a passport, and a cell phone. But David Copperfield pulled the old “reverse pick-pocket” (that’s what he said). He turned out his pockets and gave the illusion that they were empty. Except he was actually carrying his passport, wallet, and cell phone. Being a master magician he read the license plate number to one assistant as she called 911.

Okay, we want to know why he didn’t do one or a combination of the following…
a) create a diversion by cutting someone in half?
b) make a police car appear?
c) make the two assistants disappear?
d) make the robbers disappear?
e) pull a rabbit out of his hat and throw it at ‘em?
