the 21 day challenge: letting go of worry

They say it takes 21 days to form a habit. Yesterday my church began a new three week sermon series, The 21 Day Challenge. The habit we're aiming to break? The habit of worry.

A few things from yesterday's sermon, Letting Go of Worry, that stuck with me:

  • Worry is negative meditation.
  • You cannot change your past by worrying about it.
  • The most spoken commandment in Scripture is "Fear not". There are 366 fear nots in the Bible. That's one for each day of the year, including leap year.
  • Worry never moves out on it's own accord - it has to be evicted.

I really appreciate that my pastor said a word about those of us who deal with anxiety and depression that may require medical attention.

We all received wristbands with the reminder to be "Worry Free" and to live Philppians 4: 6:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

If you'd like one of these wristbands email me and I'll see that you get one.

And if you'd like to hear this series the sermons can be downloaded here. Click on the "Message Library" in the left hand margin.
