january 24

The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul and a new nose; new feet, a new backbone, new ears, and new eyes. Unless a particular man made New Year resolutions, he would make no resolutions. Unless a man starts afresh about things, he will certainly do nothing effective. Unless a man starts on the strange assumption that he has never existed before, it is quite certain that he will never exist afterwards. Unless a man be born again, he shall by no means enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. -G. K. Chesterton

New Year's Day… now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual. -Mark Twain

When one shares their New Year’s resolutions that seems to be when one most fails at fulfilling them. -Jennifer Coomer

It’s been a little goal of mine to revive this blog; to post more than a Ten on Tuesday list each week. Truthfully, I’ve wanted to return to posting something every day. Every day. And then I sit down and suddenly have nothing say or I’m too tired to say it. So ...

... Here are a few tid-bits.

This photo best represents basketball season in my family. I don’t remember what Dad and I are laughing about in this picture. But I like it. And I’m learning to accept, even embrace, that my eyes almost disappear when I really really really laugh or smile.
Tonight I went to a small group “re-group re-launch” at my church. There were a few opportunities for table discussions during the evening. I sat with some friends and their two daughters. The younger daughter, aged nine, politely listened to something I was saying and then replied, “You use a lot of vocabulary words.” I think that was one of the best compliments I’ve gotten in a long time. If not ever.

Consider January 24th blogged.
