and the only explanation i can find

I was born on a Monday. I was born two weeks early and about 30 minutes after my parents arrived at the hospital. My dad was pastoring a circuit of churches outside of Owensboro, Kentucky in Daviess County. My parents didn’t really have any family close to the area. Until his best friend, who I called “Uncle Jerry”, arrived my dad was pretty much at the hospital by himself. Back then fathers didn’t typically go into the delivery room. Not knowing what to do with himself my dad ended up in his car listening to the radio. About the time I was being born The Carpenter’s “Top of The World” came on. Dad said it summed up how he was feeling at that moment. It’s always been “our song”.

Today I came across something that I don’t remember ever noting before. Richard Carpenter and I share a birthday. I emailed my dad about this and he emailed me back …

Wow!! I sure didn't know that. And to think that their song is YOUR SONG that I sang and shouted back home from the hospital. I still sing it sometimes.
