twice in one week

This week, during an interview with Larry King, the current Indy 500 Champ, Dario Franchitti, stated that last Sunday's crash, which involved seven cars, was the first time in 24 years of racing that he's gone upside down. In this, his second season with the IRL, Marco Andretti has flipped twice. Dario is a good driver. He mostly keeps his head about him and isn't a big risk taker in comparison to some of his fellow drivers. He's an impressive driver-coming from the back of the field to the front in about seven laps at Michigan. Of the drivers in contention for the points championship I most want Dario to bring it home.

Then, today, this happened ...

August 11, 2007 - Crash at KENTUCKY RACE

Dario? You okay, buddy? Did they do an MRI on your noggin' after Michigan? Because, wow, this is just not like you.

What's truly amazing is that all drivers involved in the many crashes at Michigan, including the seven car pile-up, and the assortment of oddities at today's Kentucky race, all of the drivers walked away. Dario has a bruise on his nose caused by his helmet visor. But that's about it. The measures taken to make those drivers safe are, to say the least, phenomenal.
