the news from bowling green

It’s been an action packed few days here in the Coomer family. On Thursday night my dad took a spill and fractured two ribs. Bless his heart. He’s in a good deal of pain and is having a hard time getting a good night’s sleep.

On Saturday Derby had his first visit to the vet for his next round of shots. The vet gave him a good looking over and said he seems like a healthy boy. He does have a small umbilical hernia, that I knew about, and that it will be easily repaired when he gets the big snip-snip in a few months. His hernia is actually kind of cute. He got a Bowling Green special treat (Hill's has a plant in BG) while he was getting his shot and he acted like that was the best thing that had ever happened to him.Derby weighs six pounds and two ounces. But to me he doesn’t feel any heavier than a bag of sugar. Of course everyone in the office said that Derby was the cutest little thing. And he said, “I know. Everyone tells me that.” I think one of the girls there wanted to kidnap him. She thought better of it when I told her I’d fight her. I have noticed, in my time on this earth, that the staff at chiropractor’s and veterinary offices are always the friendliest people. I guess it takes a special person…Last night my cousin, Eric, and his wife, Daphne, stopped by and we babysat their Bichon, Lacey, while they attended a baby shower. I think Lacey may have felt a little upset with me when she discovered Derby. I’ve taken care of her a lot and we have developed a special bond. She didn’t seem to be expecting a new puppy! And bless Derb’s heart. He just wants the love and affection of his larger dog family members.

We have a new friend running around. In the last few days there has been an adorable doggie hanging around our house and the neighboring yards. My guess is that he’s an Australian Shepherd. With all the rain and wintry mix he is a muddy, soaking mess. He's never still enough for me to check his collar for a tag. I noticed that he has one Keyara eye (blue) and one Memphis eye (copper brown). He always seems to be herding something that I can’t see with my human eye.I cashed in some Christmas Sephora gift cards on Friday night. Thank you to Eric and Daphne for the new Philosophy Red Velvet Cake body wash. It smells better than I even imagined it would!Knowing that Derby would be getting a bath before his vet visit I put a little product in his hair. Of course being a puppy he’s a little too squirmy for me to accomplish much styling. And when I did, it didn't stick on Mr. Squirmy Bottoms! He really is the cutest puppy on earth.

my mom said the only way she could sleep when she broke her ribs was in the recliner... thought I would pass that along!

Dad has been sleeping in the recliner about 1/2 the night.
