Last night at the dinner table we were talking about how my dad’s tv girlfriend, The Closer’s Chief Brenda Lee Johnson/Kyra Sedgwick/Kevin Bacon’s wife, didn’t win an Emmy.Mariska Hargitay did.
Which lead to a conversation about Mariska’s mother, Jayne Mansfield. And that’s when I found out that MY MOTHER MET JAYNE MANSFIELD!!!
How in the cat hair did I get to the age of almost 33 before finding out that my mother met one of the great film icons of the last century, albeit a dead one?So, here's the story.
When my mother was in the fifth grade she and my grandma planned to move to Italy where my papaw was stationed in the Army. Their stay was cut short when my papaw had a massive heart attack that lead to his retirement from the military. But while they were there my mother met Jayne Mansfield during a USO show. She said she was actually trying to protect my papaw from the blonde bombshell. You know how little minds work. But can you blame her? And that is the story of how my mother meet Mariska Hargitay’s mother. Roll credits.

My dad met Marilyn Monroe when he was a Marine. But it's before she was famous. So the photo of his best friend with the pretty girl was more important to him than the photo of him with Marilyn Monroe. Somewhere out there my dad's former best friend has a photo of my dad with Marilyn.
