i'm such a girl

Last week I was listening to Kelly Clarkson’s Breakaway and in the moment it struck me as “oh my gosh! this is, like, so my song right now, ya’ll!!!” It’s the lyric in the chorus “take a risk/take a chance/make a change/and break away” that caught my attention. It’s been a touch decision to leave the independence of my apartment and commit to a two hour daily commute and not spend as much time with close friends. Yet, I know good things will come from living in BG. But I’ve had to “take a risk/take a chance/make a change/and break away. That song had been in my head a lot last week as I was packing my things and preparing to move. On Saturday early afternoon the U-Haul was stuffed full of my belongings and John was following in my car that had also been loaded down. Before starting down the apartment drive I adjusted the radio and a/c, put my seatbelt on, and released the parking brake. I checked the rearview mirror before I started down the hill to make sure John was behind me. I sat at the end of the drive trying to estimate the best time to pull a loaded U-Haul into traffic. At the very moment that I pulled out of the drive and onto the street “Breakaway” came on the radio. Serendipity? Sovereignty of God? Maybe God used Kelly Clarkson to reassure me. And the tears flowed. Thank you Lord.

Grew up in a small town
And when the rain would fall down
I'd just stare out my window
Dreaming of what could be
And if I'd end up happy
I would pray

Trying hard to reach out
But when I tried to speak out
Felt like no one could hear me
Wanted to belong here
But something felt so wrong here
So I'd pray
I could break away

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly.
I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky.
Make a wish, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away.
Out of the darkness and into the sun.
But I won't forget all the ones that I love.
I'll take a risk, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away

Wanna feel the warm breeze
Sleep under a palm tree
Feel the rush of the ocean
Get onboard a fast train
Travel on a jetplane
Far away
And break away

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly.
I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky.
Make a wish, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away.
Out of the darkness and into the sun.
But I won't forget all the ones that I love.
I'll take a risk, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away

Buildings with a hundred floors
Swinging with revolving doors
Maybe I don't know where they'll take me
Gotta keep movin on movin on
Fly away
Break away

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly.
Though it's not easy to tell you goodbye
Take a risk, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away.
Out of the darkness and into the sun.
But I won't forget the place I come from
I gotta take a risk, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away
Breakaway
Break away

I love those kinds of songs that just kind of find you.

I never will forget that "I'm Movin On" came on the radio as I was pulling out of my Michigan apartment on my way to Tennessee!
