the weekend that was

It’s Sunday night and too quiet in my apartment. And by too quiet I mean not loud enough to block out the noises coming from next door. My neighbor who looks like a young John Carter Cash and his pregnant wife have returned after being gone for most of the weekend. I know they’ve been gone because I haven’t heard the repetitious and bassy music from Young John Carter Cash’s video games seeping through our shared living room wall. Happily I report that Quiet Husband and his wife, THE LOUDEST WOMAN ON EARTH, moved out of the apartment on the other side of me about a month ago. On a daily basis I would hear TLWOE recounting her day to Quiet Husband. I never heard him respond so I’m assuming he was in another room or he is mute. I could hear her carrying on about how such and such did thus and such and, “Can you believe that?” and on and on. I liked to imagine him sitting in the living room watching “the game” as she went on and on and on VERY LOUDLY and occasionally offering an, “uh-uh” to give the illusion of listening. No joke…I would hear the woman on the phone…in her bathroom.

I’ve had these migraines off an on for over a week now. Friday afternoon before the Mason-Dixon book singing at Threaded Bliss I had that pukey feeling. But I would not be defeated. The Knitters and I had such fun meeting Ann and Kay. To the left is Sarah H. admiring the wall of Cascade as she waited in line.

Saturday was headache free!!! I did feel groggy and had the post-migraine hang-over. But being that it was Saturday I took naps while my TV was on PBS (a Saturday routine…) which is fabulous until the shows that require power tools start. Recently I’ve really enjoyed This Old House visiting homes from the modern movement as they restore and add onto to a home in said style. I guess it’s an okay thing that the sound of a buzz saw (listen to me trying to sound like I know what I’m talking about) woke me up in time to see catch this week’s episode. I also read a good portion of the Mason-Dixon Knitting book and I did not even put pressure on myself to knit. I enjoyed the headache free day.

Today I attended church and Sunday School (discussed the parable of the Sower and the Seeds-Parables of Jesus by Dr. J Ellsworth Kalas). Did NOT take a Sunday afternoon nap but got some knitting patterns and some yarn organized and regrouped on the Clapotis that I’ve barely touched during the Week O’ Head Wow. Then long about 2:00 I felt that familiar throbbing behind my eyes. Started to feel a little nauseated. Turned off the lights & tried to fall asleep on my bed. Laid there for 10 minutes. Gave up. Started laundry. It was something I had to do. It was that or the fall back of buying new underwear like I did in my college days when I lived on the top floor of a 3 story un-air-conditioned elevator-less dorm whose laundry room was in the basement.

Which brings me to now. I thought I would write as I wait for the Carter-Cash family to settle down next door and for my Benadryl induced drowsiness to settle in. Which … seems … to … be … work … ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

As one who also has the thump-thump-thump-electronic cheer of a video game inflicted upon her (the downstairs neighbor), you have my sympathy! I hope your head quits hurting soon...
