The Square Pegs Experience

When I was in the 3rd or 4th grade one of my TV favorite shows was Square Pegs. It stared an awkward SJP without all the cool accessories. Jamie Gertz played a snob named Muffy Tepperman. There was this New Wave kid named Johnny Slash and Tracy Nelson played a cheerleader type. One day my dad told me that Square Pegs was being cancelled and I was heartbroken. This taught me a life lesson.

When you love something set it free?

No. The lesson was this: the world does not always play fair. Sometimes when you love something it may be taken away from you. I call this “The Square Pegs Experience”.

While other favorite TV shows were cancelled to my sorrow (ex. Twin Peaks and My So Called Life) The Square Pegs Experience does not solely apply to television. I’m still not over the discontinuance of Jell-O Pudding Pops (those things were good!), Mode Magazine, or L’Oreal lipstick in Hot Cocoa. The SPE also applies to the demise of my much loved Sixpence None the Richer and the format change of 93.7 FM - The Phoenix in Nashville.

Last night I saw something that stirred something within me. I have decided to rise up! and start a “SPE” campaign! If you didn’t watch What About Brian last night watch it tonight (ABC – 9:00 CST). It stars cutie Barry Watson who played son of a preacher man, Matt Camden, on a former favorite TV show of mine, 7th Heaven. Brian is a 30-something who is the only single in a group of engaged/married with children friends. It’s produced by J.J. Abrams (which says a lot right there even if he is working with Tom Cruise right now) who is also responable for Felicity, Alias, and LOST. If you like shows like Felicity and Grey’s Anatomy you’ll probably like it. So, watch it. Love it.

Please?

Jell-O Pudding Pops

2 cups cold milk
1 package (4-serving size) Jell-O Instant Pudding and Pie Mix
6 (5-oz) paper cups
6 popsicle sticks

Beat pudding mix and milk together, at least two minutes.
Spoon into cups. Insert popsicle stick in center of each cup.

Freeze 5 hours (or overnight). To remove pop from cup, place
bottom of cup in warm water for 15 seconds. Press firmly
on bottom of cup and push pop out. Don't pull on the popsicle
stick.

OMG..

I was so upset when they cancelled MSCL. (Have the DVD - watch the eps frequently) And Felicity. (Have the DVDs - watch every once in a while) And Twin Peaks. (Have the DVD - want the second season!)

So far, I am digging "Brian". I have not finished the second half of Monday's ep, but it is sitting on the TiVo ready to go.

I'll be watching....
