The Pride and Joy of Russell Springs

So BFF and I were talking about how Miss Kentucky, Tara Elizabeth Conner, won the Miss USA Pageant this weekend. There must be some remarkable limestone deposits in the water of Central Kentucky. There have been like 5 million Miss Fill-in-the-Blanks from Campbellsville (where BFF lives) and every one of them has a street named after her. The new Miss USA is from Russell Springs. BFF says that she was carrying on about how this is the biggest thing to happen in the po-dunk town of Russell Springs, KY. But we disagree. For one magician Lance Burton is from that area and if that’s not the big times…well…then… AND country artist Steve Warner is from Russell Springs and there is even a street named after him and everything. Not to mention that Russell Springs has a K-Mart. I know because I have been in it.

This reminds me of the times that I have heard Reese Witherspoon talk about being from “such a small town”. Reese, you’re from Nashville!!!! I generally like you, Reese. I think you’re a smart Southern Gal with her wits about her. Look at this picture of you. I can just hear you saying “HEY YA’LL!!”. However, per the 2004 Census Russell Springs, KY has a population of: 2,497 and Nashville has a population of 546,719. Nashville is no New York City but I think you see my point. Miss Kentucky/USA goes to Somerset Community College but you, Reese, went to Harpeth Hall. Nashville now has its own Sephora and Tiffany stores. Not to mention The Cheesecake Factory. Give the ol’ home folks some credit.
